BE INSPIRED WITH ARINOLA
Arinola Be-Inspired✍🏽: I am Oseni, Islamiat Arinola, your favourite host on BIA.
On today’s session I will be having a global change leader who has her BA./ M.A. English and also PhD in view. She is the founder of Global Youth Sustainability Foundation (GYSF)
Kintroduce yourself ma.
Ms Ikimat: My name is Ikimat Salawu Yusuff.
Arinola Be-Inspired✍🏽: What are the things you combined with academics while in school that paid off now?
Ms Ikimat: I combined entertainment with academics. I danced in school and I was able to make some money for myself.
Arinola Be-Inspired✍🏽: What are the things you think you should have done differently when you were in school?
Ms Ikimat: Well, I felt I would have studied harder. I just feel like I didn’t study enough.
Arinola Be-Inspired✍🏽: Would you advice an undergraduate to combine academics with other skills?
If yes, which skills
Ms Ikimat: Definitely, it’s a yes. In this world of ours, skills acquisition sustains development, combining it with academics would help in personal growth, entrepreneurship, personal branding and a lead way to a sustainable future.
There are many skills to be acquired. Digital skills, creative skills amongst others. Combining any of these with academics is that like adding butter to your bread.
Arinola Be-Inspired✍🏽: Where do you think our educational system would be in the next 5 years?
Ms Ikimat: Well, Nigeria educational system as people mostly say is rotten. I actually have a different opinion. The recent pandemic made it known that we can actually be who or what we want to be in this sector. Who could believe that Nigeria could survive online teaching for about 6 months? I was a part of it and I must say that it was highly commendable for mostly the private sector.
Viewing education in the next five years, well, I see the private sector taking the lead while the government follow. Generally, education in Nigeria will partially be worthwhile.
Arinola Be-Inspired✍🏽: Your best inspirational quote?
Ms Ikimat: Never stop pushing, you can never tell the push that will change your life forever.
To our ever inspiring audience, please keep checking this space for your inspiring interviews every Wednesday. God bless you. See you next week.
