Interview with Eminent

    BE INSPIRED WITH ARINOLA

Arinola be-inspired (host): Good day, my ready to be inspired audience. I am Oseni Islamiat Arinola, your regular host on Be Inspired with Arinola. Kindly introduce yourself sir. While introducing yourself tell us your school, department, level or year of graduation if graduated.

Guest:I am The Lukman Shobowale, I graduated in 2017 from the Department of History and International Studies, University of Ilorin.

I graduated as the 30th Student Union of the Student Union and adjudged by ANUCA as best Student Union President in Nigeria for that year.

Arinola be-inspired: What are the things you did together with studying to earn money?

Mr Luqman: Since growing up as an orphan for me was a bit challenging, it is only logical for me to think beyond the four Walls of the class even as a student. So, I engaged in other productive activities, or enterprise and you may want to call it “Hustle” to make a money back in my university days.

By design and discipline, I am naturally a smart person and this by extension reflected in my studies making many of my colleagues come to me for academic assistance. So usually, I will organize personal tutorials for my colleagues who in return pays me for services rendered then. I often take groups too and I charge for it.

In my second year, I did series of businesses ranging from Soap making and distribution to buying bags of water in my hostel and reselling in bits to other students.

In my third year I was involved in the fashion business and so I made some money reselling already made wears as well as making money from IJMB tutorials.

Finally I finally devoted my time to serve the students on campus through university politics and in the end, I publish a book “Emerge, like a lotus in the pond. On the day of my book launching, I made more than 1.5M to the book sales alone. So I made some money being an August author.

Arinola be-inspired: Why did you decide to join campus politics, what motivated you?

Mr Luqman :It was the need to see beyond the present to think of the future welfare of our students that necessitated me to lead our student to prosperity.

My primary motivation is to leave a union where all student can be proud to be a member with their interest at the front burner.

I was also inspired by my hunger and thirst for good governance on campus. I just wanted things to change for better and so we launched the “Determination Unshakable mantra “ and we were resolute till the end!

Arinola be-inspired: Did you just start asking the student union president? How did your ladder of appointment go?

Mr Luqman: The position of the Student Union President was my first. I was never a Classrep, a hallrep or even any department executive. I went for the highest seat and with God’s help and the support of the better by best students of our school, I made it!

Arinola be-inspired: You are a writer, motivational speaker and a memtor, quite interesting. How did you combine all these with politics and academics your academics wasn’t affected or was it?

Mr Luqman : All I had to do is be myself. Whenever I am myself, I exhibit all these traits and perform all this roles perfectly.

Arinola be-inspired: Being the number one student at your time, how did it feel? What was your expectation?

Mr Luqman: I had a strong feeling of responsibility. I knew it was time to stop being a child or an ordinary student to being a leader, father, student, and servant all at once.

For me, it’s either the students or nothing… My personal interest become second and I became altruistic to the yearnings and desires of my primary constituency, the students!

Arinola be-inspired: Did you do anything other than politics, academics and writing ?

Mr Luqman : Yes, I gave my life in full devotion to the service of God. I was also the then RCF Evangelism Secretary.

I also volunteered for many humanitarian organizations.

Arinola be-inspired: Humanitarian Organizations like?

Mr Luqman :The one I founded by myself and some colleagues “HopeAChild” And “TheKingdomProject”

Arinola be-inspired: Your administration, could it be termed successful from your point of view?

Mr Luqman: You can ask the student who were privilege to witness it!

A student cannot score himself!!!!

Although from the Award I was given as Best SU President in Nigeria and even the award of Kwara Peace Ambassador, you can almost deduce the answer. But I’ll leave that to student to answer.

Arinola be-inspired:Can you please tell us some of your numerous achievements during your tenure?

Mr Luqman: 1. Establishment of the first Kerosene depot on campus at student friendly prices “

2. Reduction of COHS hostel fees from 85,000 to 45,000.

3. Injection  of more than 100 korope to ease transport congestion.

10. Students fell in love with their Union during our time.

11. Many others.

Arinola be-inspired: Can you advice students who aim at the very top in their academics to involve in campus politics?

Mr Luqman: Not politics per say. I will just say they should contribute their best to the development of the school and if that means doing school politics, fine. But they must not forget their primary aim of being in school is their academics.

Arinola be-inspired: What is the way to balance academics and other activities successfully?

Mr Luqman:Know your strength, understand your weakness! Understand your aims and objectives!

Arinola be-inspired: You are a writer… How many books have you written so far? How can one aceess them?

Mr Luqman: Emerge; Like a lotus in the pond – By Lukman Shobowale.

You can get it at the bookstores in kwara and also online. Amazon, OkadaBooks etc.
